Re: Lead Abatement, Spent Hull Management

Date: March 1, 2006

In recent years the control of lead in the environment has been targeted by government and private organizations.

Lead, as it is used at club ranges, is an acceptable use. Lead that leaves club property, in any form, can be a problem.

The Board of Directors has started a Lead Control Program. You will start to see steps being taken to implement the program.

As shooters you are the main users of lead at the club. Therefore, we need shooters to help by being an important member in our early steps of the program.

From now on all shooters must remove spent hulls from the fields. Containers will be available at stations for this purpose, or you can dispose of them in existing trash containers.

Removal of spent hulls has been shown to substantially lower lead levels around shooting stations. Also, the washing of shooter’s hands after each round greatly reduces their lead exposure.

Your co-operation in this endeavor is needed and expected. Failure to pick up your spent hulls may result in disciplinary action.

Users of automatics are exempt at Station 7 and High 8 for right handed and Station 1 and Low 8 for left handed automatics.

Thank you for your co-operation and we ask for any helpful input that you might have.
